WMC Women’s Media Awards

Tonight was truly amazing in every way possible. It’s not too often you get to be around so many inspirational women under one roof but that’s exactly what happened at the Women’s Media Awards. Powerhouse after Powerhouse, the red carpet was filled with such remarkable ladies and I got to interview all of them. One of my highlights was interviewing Jane Fonda, I grew up watching her so to actually interview her was quite the experience. Jane is definitely tough and to the point but very passionate about making women and girls visible and powerful in the media, something I admire. The night was hosted by Wanda Sykes and let me tell you… she is absolutely hysterical! I couldn’t keep a straight face talking to her, what a blast she is! CNN Anchor & Special Correspondent Soledad O’Brien was honored by the Women’s Media Center and I was just thrilled to meet her because she is absolutely amazing (and we went to the same high school). Being in situations like this, it is just so nice to meet people in high positions who are genuinely kind, caring and all around great… Soledad is definitely all of the above! Hats off to the Women’s Media Center!!!

Devastating diagnosis for Guiliana Rancic…

E! News darling, Guiliana Rancic has been very vocal about her attempts to get pregnant… even chronicling them on her reality show, Guiliana and Bill. So today when she came on the TODAY show I think it is safe to say many were expecting her to share some good news. But, unfortunately during an interview with Ann Curry, Guiliana revealed that during her third round of IVF she found out that she has breast cancer.
The thing that got me was despite the devastating news Guiliana had the most wonderful outlook… she basically said that everything happens for a reason and her baby that she will eventually have… will have saved her life. Had she not tried for IVF another time she wouldn’t have gotten the mammogram for about four years and her diagnosis would have been far worse. It really made me stop and think…

Black Eyed Peas in Central Park

What a night!

So Friday was one of those amazing nights where I had to just stop for a minute and really take in my “work” assignment… I covered the Black Eyed Peas Concert4NYC for New York Live.  The group partnered with Chase Bank and the Robin Hood foundation in an effort to help end poverty in New York City, it was a really great night for a great cause. Central Park was packed with some 60,000 people… there was such great energy from start to finish.  In the end, four million dollars were raised by New Yorkers for New Yorkers… felt so privileged to be a part of it!  Video to come…
